Mini-Review of Recent Patents: Mechanical Seal
Background: Mechanical seals are crucial components in machinery. The sealing performance determines the operational efficiency of the equipment. Research into mechanical seals contributes to expanding the application scope and increasing the lifespan of mechanical equipment. Improvements in mechanical seals address key challenges in enhancing the overall performance of such machinery. Objective: The aim of this study is to review the latest research on mechanical seals as well asanalyze and discuss issues that provide a reference for researchers. Methods: Based on the contact types of mechanical seals, including contacting and non-contacting (hydrostatic and hydrodynamic), a compilation and review is conducted through relevant literature and patents. This overview delves into their structures, operating principles, and distinctive features. Results: An analysis of various mechanical seals has been conducted, leading to an overview of the current state of the art. Prospects for future development are also envisaged. Conclusion: Improvements in mechanical seals foster the advancement of sealing technology, driving forward the evolution of machinery. An excellent mechanical seal requires zero leakage, a simple structure, and ease of disassembly and assembly.
