Anterior clinoid process mucocele causing visual loss: a diagnostic challenge
Anterior clinoid process (ACP) mucoceles are very rare, representing 1% of paranasal sinus mucoceles. (5) It commonly involves the frontal or the ethmoid sinus and rarely the sphenoid sinus. Involvement of the ACP as a localized lesion without sphenoid sinus involvement is very infrequent. Due to the anatomical proximity to optic nerve and the superior orbital fissure, it can present with multiple ophthalmological symptoms. The treatment possibilities vary from medical therapy with steroids and antibiotics to surgical decompression and marsupialization of the mucocele which can be executed as an open procedure or endoscopically. In the present study, the story of a patient who presented a mucocele of the ACP is reported.
