Submarine cable disturbance monitoring based on fiber optic distributed acoustic sensing

Submarine cable monitoring is of great importance for the management and protection of submarine cables. This study aims to investigate disturbance monitoring of submarine optical cables, employing a fiber-optic Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) system for real-time monitoring and data analysis. By conducting experiments on various types of disturbances, the system records the signals generated by these disturbances in real time and processes and analyzes the data. Experimental results demonstrate that the DAS system effectively identifies and locates disturbances of varying intensities, providing corresponding monitoring data in real time. This allows for the assessment of the operational status of submarine cables and provides an important basis for subsequent maintenance and management. This study offers new insights for the safety monitoring of submarine optical cables and proves the potential and feasibility of distributed acoustic sensing technology in practical applications.
