Research on the application of distributed fiber optic temperature sensing system in large-scale scientific facilities

In large-scale scientific facilities, temperature anomalies weaken system stability and cause security risks. Real-time monitoring helps evaluate operational status, which has high requirements for the placement of sensors and wiring methods, especially on facilities with radiation and electromagnetic interference. Fiber optical sensing technology, with advantages including electromagnetic interference resistance, low loss, long distance, high precision, electrical insulation, intrinsic safety, and compact size, has become the optimal selection for temperature monitoring and multi-parameter measurement, and been widely used in the safety monitoring of large infrastructure, new energy, and petrochemical fields. In this research, the radioactive facility is located in the underground test site, which is blocked by a shielding door. The Fiber optic bulkhead connector is used to connect the optical cables inside and outside the shielding door to enable the efficacy of the optical fiber splicing with low loss transmission. Temperature-sensitive optical cable in an S-shaped layout covers the tubes and key components, with dense layout in key areas. The experiment showed that a significant temperature increase after HINEG is running, reaching 71.2℃ at 1892 meters. The results show that DTS can reliably monitor and locate temperature anomalies in large-scale scientific facility, and can be widely applied to similar facilities.
