Study of HTLS Conductors in Iraqi Power Grid Using PLS-CADD
As wires are used to transmit electrical power between generation and conversion stations and up to consumption areas, transmission lines are the mainstay of the electric grid. This paper examines the possibilities of doubling the electrical transmission capacity through two main points: Firstly, The possibility of using the designs of the existing towers but substituting conventional wires with modern techniques and advanced technology of the High-Temperature Low Sag (HTLS) wires to obtain the power to be transferred, as this will save a lot of investment and operational costs in addition to the time and effort needed to complete the work. Secondly, using conventional wires with electrical capacities more significant than those currently employed in this type of line necessitates implementing an entirely new tower design. The Hurriya-Kadhimiya 132 kV transmission line was used as a case study, while the study's final findings were presented using the PLS CADD program. The application of the incredible characteristics of HTLS conductors allowed for the persistent need to increase the capacity of the transmission network on the existing power transmission line towers, which could also provide fewer conductor sags.
