Evaluating the Impact of Static Human Obstacles on the Performance of Visible Light Communication
This paper investigates the performance of indoor Visible Light Communication (VLC) systems under static human obstructions using the Matern Hardcore Point Process (MHCP) model to represent realistic spatial distributions of obstacles. The study simulates scenarios with three- and six-LED configurations, evaluating the average received power and analyzing blockage intensity profiles for homogeneous and heterogeneous obstacle densities. Results show that obstacles reduce received power, but a six-LED configuration outperforms others. Specifically, under homogeneous obstruction scenarios, in the presence of 6 obstacles, the six-LED setup achieves a mean average received power of 1.06 dBm, compared to 0.4 dBm for an eight-LED setup from prior studies. Additionally, obstacles with smaller radii have less impact on signal attenuation compared to larger ones. The study concludes that a six-LED configuration enhances performance, ensures more equitable energy distribution, and reduces power variability in static obstruction environments.
