Design and Analysis of a Photovoltaic Water Pumping System for Sustainable Agricultural Irrigation
This study focuses on a photovoltaic water pumping system (PVWPS) designed with a three-phase induction motor (IM) and a centrifugal pump. The control strategy developed for this system includes two key components. One of these is a Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) mechanism, which leverages the incremental conductance (INC) algorithm to ensure optimal power extraction from the photovoltaic array. The second controller leverages the Linearized Input-Output (LIO) method to manage the IM and the centrifugal pump, powered via a three-phase inverter. A Matlab/Simulink model was developed to validate the system's design. Simulations, conducted using real climate data from the Sidi-Bouzid region, demonstrated that the proposed PVWPS delivers enhanced performance in reference tracking, response time, torque and flux ripple reduction, current quality, and water flow rate.
