Ultra-Wideband and High Efficiency Multi-Polarization 1-Bit Reflectarray Element for C, X and Ku Bands

In this paper, an ultra-wideband 1-bit reflectarray unit cell (UC) is proposed which provides 180° phase manipulation under both linear polarization (LP) and circular polarization (CP). The UC design is very simple and easy to fabricate. It consists of dual slit octagon, which is printed on a single layer dielectric sheet. When the UC is rotated at -45° and +45° along the center axis it exhibits 1-bit phase resolution. The simulation results show that the proposed reflectarray element demonstrates high efficiency for both LP and CP and provides 180° phase manipulation from 5 GHz to 15 GHz corresponding to 100% fractional bandwidth. The proposed UC can be used for 1-bit reconfiaurable reflective metasurface by intearating diodes.
