Insights from TCAD Simulation for Enhancing Performances of Tunable Organic Light-Emitting Diodes

Organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) technology provides benefits such as excellent color reproduction and energy efficiency. Color tuning is still a challenge under investigation. Hence, various solutions aim to get more versatile color control OLED are proposed. This paper is focused on two approaches to develop color-tunable OLEDs (CT-OLEDs). More specifically, it investigates the impact of the emissive layer thickness (EML) and the integration of a holeblocking layer (HBL) on the OLEDs’ performances. Silvaco TCAD is used to investigate and evaluate the electroluminescence (EL) spectrum based on these two approaches. Results clearly show that color modulation can be controlled in a precise and efficient manner without any loss of time and materials during the experimentation. Furthermore, color modulation is possible for the same device via multiple approaches.
