A Dual-Side-Detuned S-S-Compensated IPT System With High Misalignment Tolerance Using a Low Coupling Variation Coil

The inductive power transfer (IPT) system needs to maintain small output fluctuations when large coil misalignment occurs. Coils design can effectively solve this problem. However, the output fluctuation of the coils designed alone remains large in the case of a large coil deviation. The coupling coefficient tolerance of detuned circuits are mostly circular unipolar coils. Their coupling coefficient decreases rapidly with coil misalignment, resulting in poor performance within the coil misalignment. This paper proposes a dual-side-detuned series-series compensated IPT system using a low coupling variation coil. The experimental results show that within 50% of the coil size in the X</i> and Y</i> directions and 90-130 mm in the Z</i> direction, the coupling coefficient of the coils varies from 0.0761 to 0.1086, while the system output fluctuation is only 1.28%.
