RAGE Gene Polymorphism with Microvascular Complications in Diabetic Patients: A Meta-Analysis

The present meta-analysis aimed to investigate RAGE (rs1800625 and rs1800624) gene polymorphisms and their association with diabetic retinopathy in diabetic patients among the Asian and Caucasian population. Online databases were used to gather the research that are featured in this article. We examined for case-control studies pertaining to RAGE (rs1800625 and rs1800624) gene polymorphism with diabetic retinopathy in diabetic patients using databases including Scopus, PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science. To determine whether RAGE polymorphisms are significantly associated with diabetic retinopathy in diabetic patients, Metagenyo software was used to determine the 95%CI and OR. This meta-analysis contained a total of 9 articles. Based on the result of this study, people with RAGE rs1800625 showed an association with diabetic retinopathy risk in the allelic and recessive models. On the contrary, RAGE rs1800624 gene polymorphism specifically showed an association with diabetic retinopathy risk in allelic, recessive, and dominant models. Power analysis was performed using GPower 3.1 software. This meta-analysis showed that RAGE (rs1800625 and rs1800624) gene polymorphisms revealed susceptibility with diabetic retinopathy.
