Ion irradiation-induced localized melting and stress distribution in superconducting materials

Abstract Ion irradiation of superconducting materials induces localized temperature rises, resulting in melting, amorphous columnar defect formation, and stress alterations around these defects. This study employs the thermal spike model to analyze columnar defect sizes in four types of superconducting materials- YB a 2 C u 3 O 7 − x ( YBCO ), Mg B 2 , B i 2 S r 2 CaC u 2 O 8 − x ( Bi − 2212 ), and FeS e 1 − x T e x -under varying levels of electronic energy loss.
