Breakthrough in Reservoir Characterization and Well Conformance Using Multi-Physics and Multi-Dimensional Measurements

Summary In mature, heterogeneous fractured carbonates with extensive water flooding, the conformance between injectors and producers is crucial for maximizing recovery and planning field development. The gap and uncertainties due to lack of resolution from conventional measurements at wellbore scale hinders reservoir fluids and structural elements characterization. Hence, an effective subsurface characterization requires multi-dimensional, multi-physics, and multi-disciplinary approaches with a robust 3D dynamic model to resolve complex subsurface features. An innovative data gathering campaign was initiated using advanced azimuthal technologies in horizontal wells; 3D Reservoir Mapping, Ultra-High resolution borehole images, and 3D Sonic Imaging technologies to enhance subsurface characterization. This helps improve understanding of reservoir dynamics and optimizing injector-producer pairs placements and completions, thereby optimized recovery and well performance.
