Ozone Autologous Blood Reinfusion Therapy for Intractable Pruritus of Herpes Zoster
Herpes zoster is a condition where the varicella-zoster virus, which is latent in the body when immunity is low, is reactivated and causes significant pain or itching. Postherpetic neuralgia is a common clinical condition, but pruritus is less frequent. The impact of postherpetic pruritus on an individual’s quality of life is no less than that of pain, and it is easily overlooked. This study involved a case encountered in clinical practice where the main symptom was persistent pruritus after the diagnosis of herpes zoster on the right cervical and thoracic region. The patient’s pruritus score was 10 (visual analogue scale, VAS), and they experienced intermittent sleep disruption for 3~4 hours at night. The patient was extremely distressed and the quality of life was severely affected. Various treatment methods were attempted but with no satisfactory results. Instead, ozone autologous blood therapy was adopted and achieved good therapeutic effects.
