Optimized Economic Cross‐Sectional Area of Low‐voltage Power Cables Using Minimum Energy Loss Computing

This paper introduces an innovative method for selecting the cross‐sectional area (CSA) of power distribution cables, considering both economic and operational aspects. The proposed approach aims to augment financial returns and enhance the distribution system reliability and availability. Specifically, it seeks to minimize electrical power and energy losses, reduce voltage drops, and improve operating conditions resulting from unexpected shutdowns due to cable failure. The method comprises four stages: The first stage identifies the CSA that meets technical requirements; the second stage determines the optimal CSA for maximum economic benefit. The final two stages address the reduction of energy losses relative to the investment cost and overall financial savings. This technique balances the costs of reducing power and energy losses against the savings from the economically optimized CSA. A distinguishing feature of this work is its comprehensive consideration of all technical and economic factors influencing cable sizing. The paper concludes with results, conclusions, and recommendations for the presented approach.
