Biguanide Hydroiodide as Efficient, Metal‐Free Catalyst for Synthesis of Cyclic Carbonates From <scp>CO2</scp> and Epoxides Under Mild Conditions and Its Application to Synthesis of Polymer Bearing Cyclic Carbonate Moiety
ABSTRACT Novel use of biguanides as catalysts for the efficient synthesis of five‐membered cyclic carbonates (5CCs) from CO 2 and epoxides has been developed. Among biguanides and their salts, biguanide hydroiodide showed efficient catalysis for the 5CC formation under mild conditions. The catalytic system was successfully applied to the synthesis of not only monofunctional 5CCs but also multifunctional ones.
