ALL-RUSSIA SKRYABIN SOCIETY OF HELMINTHOLOGISTS PAST AND PRESENT (85th Anniversary of the Foundation)

The All-Russia Society of Helminthologists is a voluntary scientific and public organization of citizens from Russia and the CIS countries who work in the field of general, medical, veterinary, agronomic and other areas of helminthology. The All-Russia Society of Helminthologists (until 1991, the All-Union Society of Helminthologists) was registered on December 14, 1940. In 2025, it marks 85 years since the foundation of the Society. The history of its formation begins in 1922 when K. I. Skryabin organized a Commission that united Soviet helminthologists in veterinary, medical and biological profiles to study helminth fauna in Russia. Every year, the Presidium of the All-Union Society of Helminthologists of the USSR Academy of Sciences convened conferences to summarize its work, exchange experiences and further planning of research and practical activities in helminthology. A huge number of highly specialized conferences were held on issues of animal and plant helminth control, of preventing trichinellosis, echinococcosis, and cysticercosis in humans, as well as ecological and biological aspects of helminthiasis. Publishing activities of the Society included the publication of a series of multi-volume monographs on all classes of helminths, and a number of large monographic works and identification guides to animal helminths. Since 1999, 25 collections of scientific articles have been published based on proceedings of the International Scientific Conference "Theory and Practice of Parasitic Disease Control", and more than 2,000 scientific articles have been published, which reflect various areas of parasitological research in veterinary science and medicine. Currently, major efforts on arranging conferences, and publishing collections of scientific articles help to strengthen coordination between specialists in various areas of parasitology, exchange of experience, promotion of the latest scientific achievements, and implementation of scientific work.
