HUMAN TRICHOCEPHALIASIS IN THE ASTRAKHAN REGION
In the article, the authors describe the incidence pattern of trichocephaliasis in the Astrakhan Region using a retrospective analysis as an example. The morbidity structure was analyzed in urban and rural areas of the region for 2010–2018. Helminthiasis was only recorded in four out of 11 rural areas and was 45.7% of all cases of trichocephaliasis recorded in the region. In urban areas, cases of trichocephaliasis were recorded in all city districts, both among children and adults. Trichocephaliasis was most often recorded in people older than 17. When collecting an epidemiological history, it was found that many patients did not follow personal hygiene rules. The main complaints of all patients were poor appetite, abdominal pain, flatulence, weakness, and headache. When collecting an epidemiological history, we found out that many sick patients did not follow personal hygiene rules including in particular 18.3% patients contacted stray dogs; geophagia was observed in 42.0% patients; and 58.0% patients ate unwashed fruits. There has been a downward trend in the number of cases of human whipworm infection in recent years as evidenced by the absence of infections in the region since 2019.
