NEW DATA ON PARASITES OF FEEDER INSECTS AND SYNANTHROPIC INSECTS IN THE PERM ZOO
A parasitological study of feeder insects grown in the Perm Zoo insectarium, and synanthropic insects living on its territory was carried out. A total of 110 imago specimens of different species were analyzed using partial parasitological dissection method. The analysis results showed that speckled cockroaches Nauphoeta cinerea Olivier, 1789 (30 specimens) and the two-spotted crickets Gryllus bimaculatus De Geer, 1773 (15 specimens) were free of invasion. Twenty specimens of six-spotted cockroaches Eublaberus distanti Kirby, W. F. 1903 were found to have nematodes Leidynema portentosae Van Waerebeke, 1978 and their eggs. The prevalence was 100%, and the infection intensity, 19.8. The infusoria Nyctotherus sp. Leidy, 1849 was found in one specimen. Thirty specimens of Blattella germanica Linnaeus, 1767 were infected with Blatticola blattae Graeffe, 1860 (prevalence, 77.3%, intensity, 8.5). Protozoa of the subclass Gregarinasina and nematodes L. portentosae were identified in fifteen Argentinian wood roaches Blaptica dubia Serville, 1838 (prevalence, 100%, intensity, 18.9). The identified parasites develop without intermediate hosts and do not pose any threat to human or zoo animal health and reduce the insectarium productivity.
