Cystic Hygroma Wrapping around the Spinal Accessory Nerve: A Case Report
Cystic hygroma is a benign swelling of the pediatric population, being cystic and soft in consistency.Being a fluid-filled sac resulting from a blockage in the lymphatic system, it is commonly located in the cervical region and axilla. This is a case of large cystic hygroma in the neck, diagnosed clinically and treated surgically. It was seen wrapping around the spinal accessory nerve, being in close proximity to the internal jugular vein (IJV) and ansa cervicalis.Treatment options are many when it comes to cystic hygroma, yet surgical modality is the best, considering the proximity of so many vital structures which if damaged can lead to neurovascular deficit.
