Pushkin’s Attitude to the Characters of the Poem “Poltava”: Maria and Mazepa
Aim. To identify the reflection of A. S. Pushkin’s attitude to the characters of the poem “Poltava” in the syntactic structure of the text. Methodology. The linguistic material from the poem “Poltava” was collected and analyzed using the targeted sampling method. Using the structural and semantic research method, the interaction of the syntactic construction of the poem and its content was revealed. Results. It is established that A. S. Pushkin’s poem “Poltava” is based on the principle of opposition, which forms the integrity and unity of Pushkin’s new poetics and is reflected in the use of syntactic constructions. The juxtaposition of the images of Mary as the embodiment of love and fidelity and Hetman Mazepa as the personification of lies and betrayal is realized through the use of non-verbal and verbal sentences, constructions of expressive syntax. Research implications. The results obtained complement the theory of the functioning of syntactic units in a poetic text and information about Pushkin’s idiosyncrasies.
