Crew Planning Support System for Corporate Air Carriers with One Aircraft

Crew planning and the need to optimize this process is an effort to streamline work with human resources, or to keep variable labour costs to a minimum. The solved tasks on the scheduling of flight crew shifts can be divided into tasks on optimal crew creation (in English "Crew Pairing") and tasks on optimal allocation of flights to created crews (in English "Crew Rostering" or "Crew Scheduling"). The paper contains a proposal of an optimization model for planning the work of pilot crews in the conditions of corporate air carriers with an aircraft fleet consisting of one aircraft. The optimization criterion in the proposed optimization model is the total variable costs of pilot crews during the selected planning period (usually one calendar month). Part of this paper is a partially real problem on which the use of the proposed optimization model is demonstrated. The achieved results are presented in the conclusion, which also contains suggestions for supplementing and extending the model for its practical use.
