Regulation of City Center Access and Its Impact on City Logistics
This article uses intelligent tools to address optimizing entry points into the pedestrian zone in the historic center of Žilina. The research aimed to analyze the current state of entry management into the pedestrian zone and to propose traffic and organizational measures to improve and make more efficient use of public space. The research primarily relies on analyzed data, including information on vehicle entries and exits from the pedestrian zone. This data was collected through a monitoring device managed by the city authorities. Based on the data and the analysis of the current situation, preliminary proposals for traffic and organizational measures were developed, which would contribute to better use of public space and improved urban logistics. A vital element of the solution is installing an AI-powered camera system, which is expected to monitor and manage traffic flows within the pedestrian zone. A secondary objective of the article is to discuss the connections between optimizing entries into the central urban zone and urban logistics. When deciding on regulation rules, it is also necessary to consider the environmental impact that traffic imposes on the city.
