Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY): A Systematic Literature Review and Directions for Future Research

This systematic literature review (SLR) aims to synthesize existing research on the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), a flagship crop insurance scheme by the Government of India. This review provides valuable insights from past studies on PMFBY by analysing their findings, research methodologies, policy suggestions, limitations, and the future scope of research. A total of 36 articles were systematically selected from the Scopus database for this review. For in-depth analysis, qualitative methods of systematic literature review were employed for thematic content analysis using NVivo-14, Microsoft Excel, and Mendeley, a reference management software, in this paper. The significance of this paper lies in its potential to improve the implementation of the PMFBY scheme, contribute to possible modifications in the crop insurance policies, and promote the larger objective of sustainable agricultural development. Future researchers should focus on identified research gaps and limitations of past studies mentioned in this paper, with special attention on building trust, increasing awareness level, and improving policy design to ensure PMFBY’s effectiveness and scalability.
