Spatially resolved X-ray spectra of the remnant of Kepler's supernova
Supernova remnants (SNRs) offer a unique opportunity to explore high-energy processes in astrophysical plasma, study stellar explosions and their impact on the surrounding medium. The remnant of Kepler's supernova, which exploded in 1604, is one of the most interesting young, SNRs in our Galaxy. In this paper, we present the X-ray spectral analysis of Kepler's SNR using X-ray data from the Chandra X-ray Observatory. As a result of a spatially resolved spectral analysis, we synthesize the maps of key spectral characteristics, in particular the Doppler shift maps, which allows us to derive the distribution of the line-of-sight plasma velocities for the most prominent emission lines in the X-ray spectrum of Kepler's SNR, namely, Si-He (1.6-2.1 keV), S-He (2.3-2.6 keV), and Fe K-shell (6.0-7.0 keV).The Doppler velocities are calculated in the reference frame of the SNR and thus give insight into the properties of the initial internal structure of the progenitor, of anisotropy of the ejecta expansion as well as asymmetry of shock interaction with ambient medium.
