PSYCHIATRIC SUPPORT FOR CHILDREN VICTIMS OF SEXUAL ABUSE: INTERVENTION AND RECOVERY STRATEGIES

Introduction: Child sexual abuse (CSA) is a pervasive global issue with profound and lasting psychological consequences for victims. Children subjected to such trauma often experience a range of mental health disorders, including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, and anxiety. Early and effective psychiatric interventions are crucial to mitigate these adverse outcomes and facilitate recovery. Objective: This narrative review aims to explore current psychiatric intervention strategies for children who have experienced sexual abuse, focusing on therapeutic approaches, efficacy, and recovery outcomes. Methods: A comprehensive literature search was conducted across databases including PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, and Google Scholar. Studies published in the last five years were considered, emphasizing peer-reviewed articles that addressed psychiatric interventions for child victims of sexual abuse. Results and Discussion: The review identified several effective therapeutic modalities, notably Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Trauma Systems Therapy (TST). These interventions have demonstrated efficacy in reducing PTSD symptoms and improving overall psychological well-being. The importance of caregiver involvement and culturally sensitive approaches was also highlighted as critical factors in successful treatment outcomes. Conclusion: Psychiatric interventions play a vital role in the recovery of children who have suffered sexual abuse. Implementing evidence-based therapies, involving caregivers, and ensuring cultural competence are essential components of effective treatment strategies
