A Nd:YVO4 Single-longitudinal Mode Laser with an Electro-optic Crystal as Fabry-Perot Etalon
Coherent lidar has been widely used in various fields. Coherent lidar requires light sources that help improve the detection range and range resolution. In this study, we analyzed the single-longitudinal-mode selection using an Electro-optic etalon and established a Nd:YVO<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">4</inf> single-longitudinal-mode laser with ~MHz linewidth. When we applied 250V voltage to the etalon, the laser operation returned to single longitudinal mode oscillation. When the voltage increased to 1050V, the oscillating mode changed to another. To our knowledge, this was the first time that the electro-optic crystal was used in maintaining the single-longitudinal-mode operation of the all solid state laser. This study can provide some insights into the role of the electro-optic etalon in the suppression of the longitudinal mode drift.
