A 5V-Input, 12.5-to-45V-Output Reconfigurable Hybrid Boost Converter with an SC-Based Parallel Auxiliary Cell Achieving 96.8% Peak Efficiency
The use of a boost DC-DC converter capable of accommodating a high voltage conversion ratio (VCR) is essential for powering LED-strings from mobile device voltages (VIN = 5V) [1]. However, achieving such high VCRs with traditional boost converters necessitates an excessively increased duty cycle <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$D$</tex>, resulting in significant output ripples. Often, the constraint on the maximum <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$D$</tex> limits the attainable VCR. Moreover, targeting a high output voltage (up to Vo = 45V) imposes considerable voltage stress on the switches. Many flying capacitor <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$(\mathrm{C}_{\mathrm{F}})$</tex> - based hybrid boost converters [2]–[11] present a viable solution. Nonetheless, identifying the optimal hybrid topology with minimal resources remains a complex task.
