Optimum EEG Channel Selection for Working Memory Assessment in Children of Rural Islands

This study tackles the challenge of optimizing channel selection for assessing working memory levels in children from rural islands using electroencephalogram. We focus on optimizing this placement by initially acquiring EEG signals from three channels: Fp1, Fp2, and Fz. The signal features are then extracted using power spectral density and energy spectral density methods. We computed, analyzed, and compared four power band ratios across subjects with three different levels of working memory performance. These ratios facilitated the selection of the optimal electrode placement and helped to determine the relationship between power band ratios and working memory performance levels. The study concluded that Fz is the optimal electrode for capturing variations in working memory performance within this population.
