From Innovation to Implementation: Leveraging AI-Driven Automation in Smart Urban Railway Operations

As public transport continues to evolve, technological innovations, in particular the application of artificial intelligence (AI), open up new opportunities to improve operational efficiency, which can contribute to smart urban mobility solutions, more complex analysis and development of traffic management tools. With decades of experience from operating companies, best practices, data science and machine learning (ML), it would be possible to automate some operational tasks and introduce intelligent operations. This paper attempts to outline the technological possibilities such as computer vision, anomaly detection, natural language processing (NLP) and knowledge mining, while, at the same time, explores the challenges in specific areas of operations, such as automation of sensor data processing from vehicles, or new approaches to modern work.
