5G Filtering Architecture for Handset Applications

The rapid growth in mobile wireless communication systems has created an accelerating demand for new RF spectrum bands and new technologies. Furthermore, the increasing functionalities in the limited space of mobile wireless devices demand innovative RF front end (RFFE) architectures. In this work, a state-of-the-art system on chip (SoC) filtering architecture is designed to fulfil the needs of the expanding wireless spectrum in the 5 G sub- 7 GHz (FR1) bands. The system is designed to support uplink and downlink capabilities for both n79 and n77 bands. The module includes active and passive devices, but the scope of this paper is to illustrate the novel filtering architecture. The SoC presented in this paper enhances radio frequency (RF) filter technology to help reduce system interference, increase RF range, and improve transmitter and receiver capabilities.
