Highly Efficient MIMO-OFDM Imaging Using Shared Transmission Bandwidth

This study investigates a novel radar imaging framework utilizing orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) signals to simultaneously achieve high-resolution imaging and efficient bandwidth utilization in a multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) configuration. The proposed system employs two transmit and two receive antennas operating at closely spaced carrier frequencies of 2.4 GHz and 2.415 GHz, each occupying an overlapping bandwidth of 400 MHz. By enabling concurrent transmission and reception within the same time and frequency slots, this approach achieves precise crossrange and down-range imaging with minimal interference. A frequency domain image reconstruction technique using backprojection is employed, facilitating accurate spatial representation of objects in simulations. Compared to conventional methods, the presented approach eliminates the need for time-division multiplexing (TDM) or frequency-division multiplexing (FDM), thereby enhancing temporal and spectral efficiency. Simulation results validate the system's ability to generate images of twodimensional objects while maintaining robustness in the presence of spectral and temporal interference.
