A DSISL-Based High-Efficiency Filtering Patch Antenna Array With Wide-Angle Scanning Characteristic

Aiming at millimeter wave (mm-wave) wireless power transmission (WPT) application, one high-efficiency filtering patch antenna array with wide-angle scanning characteristic is proposed. Owing to the features of low loss and good shielding effect, double-side substrate integrated suspended line (DSISL) is used to realize the proposed antenna with higher efficiency. Besides, to achieve desired filtering performance for the proposed antenna, one series-fed 4 × 1 antenna subarray with four etched slots on DSISL is presented. Good filtering performance and high efficiency is realized for the subarray without any extra filtering circuits. One 4 × 8 antenna array is constructed based on the subarray, while wide-angle scanning characteristic is realized by using a dielectric superstrate for decoupling. For demonstration, the 4 × 8 antenna array is fabricated and measured. The -10 dB impedance band covers from 23.6 GHz to 24.2 GHz with isolation higher than 23.3 dB. The peak gain is 20.2 dBi with a suppression-level more than 21.3 dB and the total efficiency is up to 85.2%. In addition, the scanning angle is up to ±62° with a gain drop less than 3 dB. Benefiting from its outstanding features, the proposed antenna will be a good candidate for mm-wave wireless power transmission applications.
