Correct Gene Models and Experimental CAZyme Data Will Facilitate Improved Biomass Valorization

The rapidly increasing number of sequenced fungal genomes provides a wealth of candidate enzymes for biomass valorization, but predicting their function remains challenging due to an insufficient number of biochemically characterized reference enzymes. In addition, incorrect gene models and over-reliance on amino acid sequence similarity further impact correct functional assignment and enzyme production.

Abstract

The rapidly increasing number of sequenced fungal genomes provides a wealth of candidate enzymes for biomass valorization, but predicting their function remains challenging due to an insufficient number of biochemically characterized reference enzymes. In addition, incorrect gene models and over-reliance on amino acid sequence similarity further impact correct functional assignment and enzyme production.
