Is non-neoliberal health promotion possible?
Abstract This article brings a critical analysis of health promotion and the effects of neoliberalism on its practices and discourses. The meanings and tensions in the creation of the concept of Health Promotion are described historically. From a governmental and biopolitical perspective, we discuss how neoliberal risk management modifies the ideals of healthy living and normality to which everyone should aspire. Finally, we point out issues for the construction of non-neoliberal health promotion practices.
