Palpitations in Pregnant Woman and Her Obstetrician: A Rare Case of Wolf-Parkinson-White Syndrome in Pregnancy
Aim: To illuminate a case of rare congenital life-threatening arrhythmia precipitated by pregnancy. Background: Supraventricular tachycardia is the most common arrhythmia of pregnancy and the most common presentation of Wolf-Parkinson-White (WPW) syndrome, which could present with poor maternal and fetal outcome as no evidence-based guidelines are currently available.Case description: We report a case of supraventricular tachycardia in a pregnant woman who was conservatively managed to later diagnose an underlying, previously asymptomatic WPW syndrome. Conclusion and clinical significance: An expeditious and multidisciplinary approach is required for an early and correct diagnosis with acute and chronic management in all stages of pregnancy in a rare but life-threatening congenital arrhythmia in pregnancy.
