A Case Report of a Rare and Aggressive Tumor: Uterine Carcinosarcoma with Heterologous Mesenchymal Element

About 5% of all malignant uterine tumors are uterine carcinosarcomas (UCS), commonly referred to as malignant mixed Mllerian tumors (MMMTs).Uterine carcinosarcomas is a rare and extremely aggressive tumor of the female genital tract. It is responsible for 16% of deaths that are related to uterine malignancies and associated with poor prognosis.Although there are some exceptions, uterine neoplasms are mostly found in postmenopausal women. They typically appear in the uterine body and exhibit uterine hypertrophy and hemorrhage. We report the case of a 57-year-old woman who complained of pelvic pain and vaginal bleeding for 3 months.Gynecological examination showed a large uterus with a pinkish-white polypoid mass sticking through the cervical os.Bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy and complete abdominal hysterectomy were carried out.The surgical specimen's histological analysis showed uterine carcinosarcoma with heterologous mesenchymal components. The multidisciplinary team comprising a gynecologist, gynecological oncologist, and pathologists must take into account the extremely rare UCS when they come across a post-menopausal woman presenting with a vulvar mass and vaginal bleeding.
