Sub-Surface Perforated Pipe Irrigation: A Sustainable Strategy for Enhancing the Water Use Efficiency in Irrigation Projects, Assam
The performance of a subsurface perforated pipe irrigation system (SSPP) in Assam, India under particular soil conditions is examined in this study. The study investigates SSPP as a potential substitute to enhance irrigation effectiveness and agricultural productivity, while traditional canal systems are underperforming because of challenges such as land acquisition issues, high maintenance cost and significant water losses. Four irrigation techniques were evaluated in an experiment conducted at Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Assam Agricultural University (AUU), Kahikuchi Campus, Kamrup, Guwahati. The irrigation systems of flood, surface drip, subsurface drip and subsurface perforated pipe were tested to a variety of horticultural and Rabi crops. Irrigation Water Productivity (IWP) and Nutrient Use Efficiency (NUE) were among the parameters assessed.
