A new benzophenone from the bark of Garcinia lanessanii

Abstract Phytochemical study on a chloroform extract of the bark of Garcinia lanessanii Pierre collected in Tây Ninh province led to the isolation of eight phenolic compounds, comprising a new benzophenone, 3,3′,4,4′‐tetrahydroxy‐5‐methoxybenzophenone ( 1 ), and seven known compounds, 2,3′,4,5′‐tetrahydroxy‐6‐methoxybenzophenone ( 2 ), 1,3,6,7‐tetrahydroxy‐8‐(3‐methyl‐2‐butenyl)xanthone ( 3 ), garcihombronone D ( 4 ), rubraxanthone ( 5 ), garcihombronone B ( 6 ), and smeathxanthones A and B ( 7 and 8 ). Their structures were determined using spectroscopic methods, mainly 1D and 2D NMR, and HR‐ESIMS. In addition, in vitro cytotoxicity against HepG2 cells of the two benzophenones ( 1 and 2 ) revealed that the compounds possessed moderate effects.
