Non-cardiac chest pain syndrome in general practice
Chest pain is one of the disease symptoms most often encountered in general medical practice. Despite the annual increase in the number of patients visiting various medical and diagnostic institutions with a wide variety of chest pain, many practicing doctors do not fully identify the whole variety of causes that provoke chest pain, and the methods and tactics for examining this group of patients have not yet been fully developed. That is why errors made by doctors in the differential diagnosis of chest pain are not uncommon, especially at the preliminary stage of examining patients. Meanwhile, it is known that chest pain syndrome can be associated not only with heart disease, but also with diseases of the digestive organs, respiratory system, mediastinum, and musculoskeletal system. In particular, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and esophageal motility dysfunction are currently given great impor tance in the genesis of chest pain.
