Psychological factors and fitness levels in amateur triathletes

Research objective: This paper aims to highlight the significance of psychological factors in shaping the performance of amateur triathletes, with particular emphasis on the role of mental preparation and techniques supporting psychological readiness. Methodology: The article is based on a literature review related to sports psychology, triathlon, and the influence of mental techniques on athletes’ functioning. It includes scientific publications, specialist studies, and practical approaches to psychological training. Main conclusions: Psychological factors such as mental toughness, perseverance, stress management, and the application of mental techniques (e.g., visualization, self-talk) can significantly affect athletic performance. Insufficient use of these resources may hinder athletes’ potential, regardless of their physical condition. Application of the study: The findings may support coaches, sports psychologists, and triathletes in designing training plans that include mental preparation. They may also encourage broader integration of psychological strategies into endurance sport training. Originality/Novelty of the study: The paper systematizes dispersed knowledge regarding the psychological preparation of amateur triathletes and underscores the need to give greater attention to mental aspects when evaluating their performance and competition readiness.
