The Nexus Between Green Human Resource Management Practices and Environmental Sustainability of Manufacturing Firms in Tanzania: A Resource-Based View Approach

This study was conducted to examine the influence of GHRM practices in enhancing environmental sustainability. The study deployed resource-based theory as the theoretical framework guiding the research. In addition, the study used a quantitative approach for data collection and analysis where 250 self-administered questionnaires were distributed to human resource managers of manufacturing firms. Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) was used to analyze quantitative data. The findings of the study revealed that all of the selected GHRM practices, namely green hiring, green training, and green performance management, have significant and positive influence on environmental sustainability. This study contributes to the scientific body of knowledge by offering an explanation on the necessity of management to attract and retain human resources who have knowledge of eco-friendly practices. The study recommends that managers and policymakers in the manufacturing sector to encourage and prioritizing hiring of a workforce with environmental awareness, introduce various green training programs to employees, and fully engage employees in the implementation and embedment of sustainability culture into the organizational structure.
