Lutetium -177 Binded Somatostatin Aanalogues in the treatment of Neuroendocrine tumors : Review of the literature
Neuroendocrine tumors have been increasingly common in recent years. Because these tumors grow slowly and symptoms are often absent in the early stages, most patients are diagnosed at advanced stages. Treatment options for advanced tumors are also limited. For many years, the most important part of treatment has been with somatostatin analogues. These treatments have varying degrees of success depending on the tumor's somatostatin receptor content. In recent years, radionuclide therapies, known as targeted therapies, which deliver direct radiotherapy to tumor cells, have been used in the treatment of many tumors. The effects, success, and side effects of the combination therapy of Lutetium-177 and somatostatin analogues in neuroendocrine tumors have been reviewed in this article alongside current literature information.
