Assessment of the preventive effect of BCG vaccine in children exposed to tuberculosis

The article examines the effectiveness of BCG vaccination in children exposed to tuberculosis at home. Two groups of children under 7 years who had tuberculosis contact were analyzed: Group 1 - 117 healthy children and Group 2 – 87 patients with tuberculosis. It was found that in the 1st group there were significantly fewer unvaccinated children - 6.8%, than in the 2nd group 21.8%. BCG vaccination helped to reduce the severity of the process and reduce the epidemic risk of tuberculosis in children (OR = 23.929, 95% CI 2.59; 22.97). In children exposed to drug-sensitive or drug-resistant tuberculosis differences in the proportion of those vaccinated and not vaccinated with BCG were not found in 1st and 2nd groups. А conclusion was made about the protective effect of BCG vaccination in children under 7 years who are household contacts of tuberculosis сases.
