Benefits of utilisation of nebivolol in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease

In addition to cardiac selectivity and NO-mediated vasodilator effects, nebivolol has been demonstrated to have anti-inflammatory effects, improve endothelial function and reduce arterial stiffness, suggesting that nebivolol treatment in COPD is likely to be associated with clinical benefits beyond lowering BP values. To date, studies with nebivolol in patients with respiratory problems have only been conducted in short-term, small studies. Benefits were independent of the presence of overt CV diseases and the use of other CV therapies and were not associated with adverse effects on lung function. Interestingly, a significant reduction in deaths from any cause has been demonstrated among patients with COPD and hypertension treated with cardioselective β-blockers.
