Structural-semantic characteristics of nominative units in the English-language linguocultural scenario “Tourism”
This research aims to identify the structural and semantic characteristics of nominative units that serve as linguistic expressions of the English-language linguocultural scenario “Tourism”. To achieve this aim, the article describes the frame structure of the scenario and analyzes its linguistic component. The novelty of this work lies in the fact that the studied linguocultural scenario, which has not previously been the subject of research, is considered as a cognitive schema of a speech situation, and a comprehensive cognitive-culturological approach is applied to the linguistic material, allowing the identification of specific features of the structure and semantics of the scenario's language units. The research results have established a predominance of separate-form language units, represented by two-component nominal phrases with nouns denoting basic concepts of the analyzed thematic area as core words; two-word verbal phrases including complements in the form of keywords in the field of tourism. Among integral-form nominative units, affixal nouns in the form of a non-prepositional construction predominate; compound words formed by juxtaposing stems and characterizing types and directions of tourism, employees and clients in the analyzed sphere, as well as their skills and qualities; phrasal and complex verbs, which are an important means of compressing information.
