Management methods at the Sapporo Dome (Hokkaido, Japan) for a movable soccer field of cool season turfgrass
Abstract We report on a 22‐year study of spring and autumn nutrient storage and top dry weight in a thin rootzone mix of cool season turfgrass from 2002 to 2023. The most distinctive feature is the movable soccer field, which is grown outdoors in natural light and brought inside the dome for events. A comparison of the amount of storage nutrient in the spring and autumn showed a trend toward less in the spring and more in the autumn. The threshold for autumn is set at 100 mg/g dry weight. The electric heating wire type underheating system, which is lightweight and responsible for preventing freezing of the movable soccer field, was found to be an optimal design.
