EQUATIONS FOR EARTH: THE ROLE OF MATHEMATICAL MODELING IN ACHIEVING SUSTAINABILITY GOALS
The global movement toward sustainability demands the integration of interdisciplinary tools to address complex environmental, social, and economic challenges.Among these tools, mathematics, particularly in the form of mathematical modeling, plays a pivotal role in understanding and solving sustainability-related problems. This paper examines the critical role of mathematical modeling in advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) amidst the global movement toward sustainability.By employing techniques such as optimization, simulation, and quantitative analysis, mathematical models provide valuable insights into system dynamics, enabling informed decision-making and strategic planning.Furthermore, the paper discusses future research directions, including the integration of big data and machine learning, interdisciplinary collaborations, and educational initiatives aimed at equipping future generations with the necessary mathematical skills.Ultimately, this exploration underscores the indispensable contribution of mathematics to fostering a sustainable planet and achieving the SDGs.
