Discussing the Dynamic Landscapes of the Himalaya and Alluvial Deposits of Terai with Geological Evolution of the Himalayas

This paper synthesizes multidisciplinary research on the geological evolution of the Himalayan orogen and its direct influence on the development of the adjacent Terai alluvial plains. It reviews tectonic processes-from pre-collision history through the ongoing India-Eurasia convergence-and examines how uplift, erosion, and sediment transport have shaped both the high-relief Himalayan landscapes and the low-lying, sediment-rich Terai.Emphasis is placed on the interplay among tectonics, climate, and fluvial dynamics, as well as the implications for natural hazards, groundwater resources, and sustainable land management. In suggesting figures and tables, the paper outlines schematic cross-sections of the thrust system and stratigraphic frameworks, along with summaries of major tectonic and climatic events. The discussion concludes by highlighting contemporary challenges and prospects for future research in this geologically complex and densely populated region.
