Safe Medication: An Integrated Approach
Socio-technical issues in Health Information Systems (HIS) can introduce new error risks, resulting in unintended harm to patients. This paper presents a qualitative case study evaluating safe medication use concerning HIS through observation, interviews and document analysis at a Japanese hospital. Effective strategies for managing safe medication include strong management and leadership, a safety culture, effective communication, an incident reporting system and a closed feedback loop. Our proposed Human, Organisation, Process and Technology-fit framework facilitated a comprehensive evaluation of HIS and safe medication.
